NOTES:
I did this tutorial using PSP X4 but it can easily be done in any version.
This tutorial is at a beginner to intermediate level but assumes you have some knowledge of using PSP and filters.
I have my workspace set up with many short cut icons but for the purpose of clarity, each step in this tutorial states the full path.
The supplies are FTU. Download and unzip the supplies to a folder on your computer where you can find them.
Place the "Grain Fine" texture into your Textures folder.
Most important SAVE your work often. I will be reminding you to do so as you go along :)
Lets get started:
STEP 1
File, Open the supplied template bewitchingkathybutlertemplate. Highlight the top layer
Layers, delete
The file will appear empty, but there is a selection in the Alpha Channel we will be using later.
Window, duplicate,(shift + D) close original file
This will be your working canvas
Flood fill tool, flood fill with white #ffffff
File, Open the supplied mask vaybs mask hw 02 and minimized it for later use
STEP 2
File, Open the supplied tube Azurylipfe_Is_Is_It_Halloween_Karlene
Edit, copy, close original tube image
Back to your working canvas
Edit, Paste as a new layer
Highlight the tube layer
Image, resize, 60%, resize all layers NOT checked
Click OK
STEP 3
Freehand selection tool, point to point, feather 0, Anti-alias checked
Draw around the copyright portion of the tube
SAVE YOUR WORK
Selections, promote selection to layer
Keep selected
Highlight the witch tube layer again and hit Delete on your keyboard
Selections, select none
Click on the eye to the left of the copyright layer to close it for later use
STEP 4
Still on tube image layer
Image, mirror (or flip horizontal)
Dropper tool, Choose 2 colours from your image for the foreground and background colours.
I chose Foreground #41432b, Background #150f15
Click on the background swatch on the materials palette
Click on the gradient tab
Click on the preview window
Scroll to find and then click on the default foreground/background swatch
Angle 0, Repeats 0, Invert NOT checked, Style linear Click on OK
STEP 5
Highlight the white background layer
Layers, new raster layer
Highlight the new layer
Flood fill tool, right click on the canvas to flood fill the new layer with the gradient
Layers, New mask layer, from image
Click on the source window and choose vaybs mask h2 02
Check in Source luminance
No check marks in the rest of the boxes
Click OK
Right click on the mask layer on the layer palette
Choose merge group
Click on Yes if prompted
Close mask file now as it is no longer needed
SAVE YOUR WORK
STEP 6
Highlight witch tube layer
Move tool, move witch tube to the left slightly
Line up with left side of the center rectangle of the mask layer as shown
Effects, 3D, Drop shadow with these settings
Vertical 10, Horizontal 10, opacity 53, Blue 12.20, colour Black #000000
Shadow on new layer NOT checked
Click on eye to the left of the witch tube layer to hide it for now
STEP 7
Highlight the mask layer
Layers, new layer
Selections, load/save selection, Load selection from Alpha Channel
Choose Selection # 1, check in Replace selection, NO check in rest of boxes
Click on load
Keep selected
Layers, new raster layer
Keep selected
Open the supplied rs_hauntedscene4modified image into your workspace
Edit, copy
Close the original image
Back to your working canvas
Edit, paste into selection
Effects, Texture effects, texture with these settings
Texture grain fine, size 100%, Smoothness 13, Depth 2, Ambience 0, Shininess 0, angle 315, intensity 50, elevation 50, colour white #ffffff
Click OK
This is what your layer palette should look like now

Selections, Invert selection
SAVE YOUR WORK
STEP 8
Keep selected
Highlight witch tube layer again
Click on eye to the left again to Unhide the layer
Erasure tool with the following settings
Shape round, size 74 (or whatever size works for you), hardness 0, step 21, density 100, thickness 100, rotation 0, Opacity 100
Erase all of the dress and dress shadow at the bottom below the marching ants (Marquee)
Keep selected
STEP 9
Selections, Invert selection
Highlight the house image layer
Layers, new raster layer
Effects, 3D, cutout with these settings
Vertical -5, horizontal -5, opacity 52, Blur 30, colour # 7b2dab
Layers, new raster layer
Effects, 3D, cutout with these settings
Vertical 5, horizontal 5, opacity 52, blur 30, Colour # 2f1440
Layer, arrange, move down
Selections, select none
SAVE YOUR WORK
STEP 10
Still on the merged cutout layer
Selection tool, rectangle, mode replace, feather 2, Anti-alias checked
Now we will select the bottom left section of the cutout. Starting to the left of the frame and at approximately (x66 y203), left click with your mouse and drag to the right and then down to- approximately (x279 y379). Refer to ruler co-ordinates at bottom of your work space. Values change as you move your mouse around the canvas.
This does not have to be exact.
Your rectangle should look something like this:
Selections, promote selection to layer
Selections, select none
Left Click on the layer within the palette and drag it above the witch tube layer
OR
Layer, arrange, move up
Repeat Layer, arrange, move up
The promoted selection should now be above the witch layer
Change the promoted layer opacity to 67%
STEP 11
File, Open the wordart tube, wordartbewitchingkathybutler
Edit, copy
Close original
Back to your working canvas
Highlight the top layer
Edit, paste as a new layer
Place the wordart where you like
STEP 12
File, Open the cat tube, catkathybutler
Edit, copy
Close original
Back to your working canvas
Highlight the top layer
Edit, paste as a new layer
Place the cat tube where you like
STEP 13
Layer, New vector layer
Add your name with a font of your choice.
I used Fright Night, size 53 pixels, Background colour #752aa3, stroke width 0
New raster layer
Add your watermark and the appropriate copyright credits
SAVE YOUR WORK
STEP14
I always like to keep a copy of my work with all the layers in tact so I can easily make changes or corrections.
File, save as (or save copy as),
Add a 2 (or whatever you like) to the end of the existing file name just to make it different from the original file name.
Click save.
Now you can either merge all layers to flatten the image or leave it as it is.
To merge:
Layers, Merge, Merge All (Flatten)
Save your work as a jpeg for using as you like.
File, export, JPEG Optimizer, compression value 20
Leave all other tab settings at default
Click OK, browse to where you want to save your work, give it a name and click save.
